Hawaii Kona Extra Fancy, Mauku Honaunau District

from $56.00

Our Kona’s dry grind aroma immediately alerts us to the coffee’s promise… sharply bright with distinct, yet subtle, sweetness of lingering fruit. The cup aroma is elegantly nutty with a milk chocolate and caramel sweetness, reminiscent of the Ghirardelli caramel filled milk chocolate squares we treat ourselves to during the holiday, and flirts with the promise perhaps of stone fruit.  The flavor has a mild berry sweetness with a palate saturating rich dark chocolate ganache that lingers, complemented by an elegant nutty undertone that reminds us of hazelnut. This is an elegantly restrained coffee that pleasantly displays a dramatic contrast between the dry grind, the aroma and the flavor.  Enjoy this Christmas Eve’s special brew… we have really enjoyed this whirlwind trip with you, exploring the world’s special places… with a humble spirit we say thank you for being our travel partners.

As Bing Crosby sang to us and Clark W. Griswold agreed…

“Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright, the sun to shine by day and all the stars at night. Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii’s way to say Merry Christmas to you.”

MELE KALIKIMAKA… “is the thing to say on a bright Hawaiian Christmas day. That’s the island greeting that we send to you from the land where palm trees sway.”

We close out our Holiday “Tour de Force” with perhaps the most iconic coffee in the American lexicon. The 6-acre Kona Hills Coffee Company, located on the “Big Island” of Hawaii in the “Kona Coffee Belt” along the eastern shore, cultivates our brew on the slopes of Mauna Loa or “Long Mountain”, the earth’s largest and most active volcano and second in size in our solar system only to Mar’s dormant Olympus Moa volcano.

Kona Extra Fancy is the highest Kona grade, awarded to less than 1 percent of all Hawaiian coffee, with this distinction reflected in the beans size of 19, out of an industry chart top rating of 20, indicating longer development with greater nutrient incorporation yielding greater depth and complexity.
