Coffee in Timor is cultivated on small familial farms and the Café Timor Coop is a group of approximately 20,000 farmers who have banded together in 16 sub-cooperatives and 494 small-scale farmer groups in order to leverage economies of scale in the processing and distribution of their coffee. The country’s western zone is the major coffee producing area where the interior high elevations are centered around the city of Maubisse, 44 miles due south of the northern coastal capital of Dili. Our Café Timor Coop is a washed process with notes of sweet caramel, milk chocolate, cranberry and apple. It is smoothly balanced with a big flavorful fruity punch.

East Timor, also known as Timor-Leste, is roughly half the size of Massachusetts, 20 percent the population and .7 percent the GDP. It comprises the eastern half of the island of Timor with the western half administered by Indonesia. Located 1732 miles due east of Jakarta Indonesia, 609 miles due north of Derby Australia, 1449 miles due west of Port Moresby Papua New Guinea and 3087 miles due south of Manila Philippines, Timor finds itself remotely triangulated in the Timor Sea.
After being a Portuguese colony for 500 years, in 1975 internal conflict preceded a unilateral declaration of independence followed by an Indonesian invasion and annexation. Resistance continued throughout Indonesian rule and in 1999 a United Nations sponsored act of self-determination led to Indonesia relinquishing control of the territory resulting in the creation of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste on 20 May 2002, the first new sovereign state of the 21st century.
